THE CODE HAS BEEN LOST

(THIS IS A BOOK, NOT AN ARTIST'S BOOK)

A book series

mixed media on paper

21 cm x 13 cm

ongoing

Each book of the series contains a singular artwork that can be read throughout its pages. Following the depicted story, the consecutive pages act as integral elements of a continuous whole, while simultaneously functioning as self-sufficient, completed frames. The underlying structure consisting of several books allows the singular components of the artwork to realign and reinvent themselves, forming (in)finite combinations. The book series takes asemic writing as one of its starting points, playing with communication possibilities that visible signs and/or their absence produce. Using diverse media without discrimination but with careful consideration, the books focus on the sign’s eliminated capacity to convey meaning. The Code has been lost (This is a book, not an artist’s book)  was purposely created through an extended time period and in numerous locations. Accumulating matter in this manner and linking it to its semiotics-based concept, the artwork forgoes the capacity to make a (site-) specific point. Instead, it remains open to reinterpretation. It extends, and becomes impossible to pinpoint.
