The Wall, site specific intervention on a wall, mixed technique on canvas, removal of the canvas, dimensions variable, 2015
In my research, exploring, discovering, and understanding is an integral part of each artwork. The Wall started out as an oil on canvas, attached directly to a wall during the painting process. When the painting was finished and became a subject, existing and communicating for itself, it was taken off the wall. What was left where the canvas was hung was a composition of additions (paint absorbed by the plaster) and subtractions (portions of plaster adhered to the canvas). By considering and, later on, recognizing this composition, I discovered that the actual artwork had been created in an objective corollary to the oil on canvas. The oil on canvas that became a subject had the possibility to create another artwork after the removal of the artist. The causal relationship between the artist and the second subject (The Wall) is intermediated by the first subject (oil on canvas).
